Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre recently held a Manipuri workshop under the aegis of Darshana Jhaveri of Manipuri Nartanalaya at Bharatiyam. A dancer, teacher and research scholar rolled into one, Jhaveri has been meticulously trained by Guru Bipin Singh. She is adept in both the tandava and the lasya style of Manipuri. Lord Krishna who celebrates his birthday each Shravana masa is perhaps, the most colourful of all Indian gods. ‘Krishna consciousness’, the product of the romanticism of the Puranas, the fantastic visualisation of the epics and harsh reality of history– fits into any time-frame. This unique personality has inspired all Indian art media.
